Getting past the first step up to manager in a women’s mid-twenties has proven a major barrier to career progression. While men end up holding 60% of manager-level positions, women hold just 40%. The ‘glass ceiling’ is still a challenge women experience, but the ‘broken rung’ remains the largest obstacle (LeanIn.org).
