Financial coordinator (Unpaid)

Position Overview:

The Financial Coordinator will be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the organization’s grant applications and financial reporting processes. This role includes identifying grant opportunities, preparing application materials, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. The Financial Coordinator will collaborate closely with program teams and leadership to secure funding that aligns with the organization’s mission and financial goals. The ideal candidate will have strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and experience in grant writing and financial management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grant Research and Application: Identify and research relevant grant opportunities that align with the organization's mission and financial needs. Prepare and submit high-quality, compelling grant applications.

  • Financial Reporting: Track and report on the financial performance of awarded grants, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements and maintaining detailed financial records.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with program teams and leadership to gather necessary data and insights for grant applications and to ensure alignment between funding needs and program goals.

  • Budget Management: Develop, monitor, and revise budgets for grant applications, ensuring that proposed expenses are in line with grant guidelines and organizational objectives.

  • Grant Compliance: Ensure timely submission of financial reports, audits, and documentation required by grant funders, maintaining compliance with grant terms and conditions.

  • Financial Planning: Support financial planning and forecasting by analyzing grant revenues and expenditures to inform future funding strategies.

Time commitment: 5-6 hours / week

Requirements:

  • Interest in financial management, grant writing, or a related role, preferably in a nonprofit or grant-focused environment.

  • Pursuing or has Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, nonprofit management, or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and grant application processes, with a proven track record of securing grant funding.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with experience managing multiple grant applications and financial reporting tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to develop clear and compelling grant narratives and financial documents.

  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy in financial reports and grant applications.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to gather required information for grant submissions.

  • Proficiency in financial management software and tools (e.g., Excel) to manage grant budgets and track expenditures.
